JORDAN RIVER COMMISSION

Member Project: Weed Management in Taylorsville

The Bonneville Cooperative Weed Management Area (BCWMA), in conjunction with Salt Lake County and other stakeholders is working on mapping and treating invasive species along the Jordan River corridors part of a Grazing Improvement Program grant.

A current focus area is located near 4800 South, and includes both the Murray City and the City of Taylorsville sides of the Jordan River corridor.   The most prevalent invasive species in the area are:  Hoary cress (Cardaria draba), Russian Olive (Elaeagnus angus.), and Scotch Thistle (Onopordum acanthium), and the common reed (Phragmites australis).

Not all species and plant will be treated due to funding limits, and this spring treatment does not include the trees or Phragmites due to the need to create a longer-term plan for replacement of riparian habitat structure.  However, this is a great project and will have a positive impact on this section of the Jordan River corridor.  For more information, please contact Eric McCulley (801-322-4307) or Phil McCraley (385-468-6131).
