The Jordan River Commission is pleased to announce that we were just awarded $50,000 from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s Five Star Restoration Grant program.

The project is located on the Big Bend Habitat Restoration Site  in West Jordan and work will be focused on:

  • Reducing the invasive weed seed bank prior to a major restoration effort on the site,
  • Pre-restoration migratory bird monitoring,
  • Community education and outreach about Jordan River issues,
  • Evaluation of effectiveness of educational efforts, and
  • Testing of native vegetation “habitat patches” to identify the most successful approaches to restoring and revegetating the site.

Project partners include:

West Jordan City, National Park Service, Utah Conservation Corps, Tracy Aviary, University of Utah, Utah Reclamation and Mitigation Commission, Division of Wildlife Resources, and many local schools and community partners.
