JORDAN RIVER COMMISSION

Your help is needed!

trash - charles uibel

If you read our newspaper insert on Sunday, you might have noticed a story about plastic water bottles piling up at the Burnham Dam on the Legacy Nature Preserve.  The Legacy Nature Preserve is not open to the general public, but professional photographer Charles Uibel took some great photos to allow others to see the trash problem.

Lots of people and organizations are working on this effort.  Salt Lake County Engineering has a trash collection boom project in the works to help remedy this problem.  Friends of Great Salt Lake and the various private duck clubs along the lake are supporting the effort.  The JRC and Splore’s volunteer events are helping to minimize the amount of trash that makes it to the river.  However, we still need your help!

Next time you visit the Jordan River, make it a goal to pick up at least one piece of trash. Share our newspaper insert with a friend, and join one of our volunteer events next Spring.  The Jordan River belongs to all of us – and we all have a responsibility to protect it.
